A Public Speaking Program Just for Kids

Quills and Quotes is an exciting public speaking program in Mississauga just for kids. The unique and proven program is for children aged 9-14 years. Students learn the fundamentals of posture, voice, expression and body language. Plus, they study legendary speeches and current TED TALKS. For those with public speaking anxiety, the course teaches students techniques to remain poised and confident and gives students ample opportunities to practice.

Public Speaking Classes

The culminating speech is a “QUILL Talk” in front of a broad audience. Shauna Jain, one of the Quills founders, is particularly proud of a student who started the course nervously delivering speeches by reading off cue cards, and after a few months of the course, he won his class speech competition.

Quills and Quotes offers the following 5 Tips to Quash Public Speaking Anxiety:

  1. Realize public speaking anxiety is normal and common. In fact, more people fear public speaking than death. So that terrible feeling in the PIT of your stomach is happening to all the other presenters in the room. To squash those butterflies, remember PITS.
  2. Practice: this is first because it is the absolute fundamentals of speech delivery. Knowing your speech cold and practicing it at least 5 times is the best confidence builder you can give yourself.
  3. Inhale: breathing relaxes the body and mind. Breathe a 7 x 7 x7. Inhale for a count of 7, hold the breath for a count of 7 and breathe out for a count of seven.
  4. Talk yourself up: give yourself a pep talk before going on stage. Tell yourself you are awesome, your talk is awesome and that you are going to deliver the speech of the year. Use your name in the pep talk: “Dave, you got this. You are the king of public speaking.”
  5. See yourself succeeding: close your eyes and visualize yourself delivering the speech of your life, the audience hanging on your every word, laughing and smiling and a thunderous applause when you finish. When you can “see” success you gain the confidence to “be” successful.
